CGTC Quality Enhancement Plan
What is the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)?
The QEP describes a carefully designed course of action that addresses a well-defined and focused topic or issue related to enhancing student learning. The QEP should be embedded within the institution's ongoing integrated institution-wide planning and evaluation process and may very well evolve from this existing process or from other processes related to the institution's internal reaffirmation review. (SACS/COC QEP Handbook 2007)
Plan Guidance
The Plan is guided by a QEP Steering Committee. The QEP Steering Committee is comprised of members from Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Information Technology. The Institutional Effectiveness Officer serves as an Advisor.
CGTC Topic/Focus
Improving Long-Term Student Learning Outcomes of Academically Disadvantaged Students
CGTC measures its performance against yearly, state-computed and federally approved normative benchmarks for specially selected core indicators. The selection of the QEP topic is the result of review and analysis of the College's performance on measures of institutional effectiveness derived from federal Carl Perkins Fund core indicator program statistics. One population, the academically disadvantaged, was underperforming by not meeting established benchmarks for success. Academically disadvantaged students are defined as award-seeking CGTC students who score below college-level proficiency on the reading, mathematics, and/or English portions of the college placement examination. To improve performance of the academically disadvantaged student, the College developed its QEP which addresses an area of student learning that is consistent with the overall mission of the College to provide quality academic and occupational education.
Overall Goals of QEP
To improve the following core indicators for the academically disadvantaged students:
1) Successful attainment of academic proficiencies
2) Successful attainment of occupational proficiencies
3) Successful attainment of a postsecondary certificate, diploma, or degree
QEP Outcome
100% of Students completing Learning Support (LS) will be program ready, as measured by the institution's placement standards.
