The CGTC Department of Public Safety Police Officers are certified police officers by the State of Georgia.

Lionel Doss, Chief of Public Safety

Chief Lionel DossChief Lionel Doss was born in Fort Payne Alabama and raised in a rural community outside Fort Payne in DeKalb County Alabama.  He graduated from Sylvania High School and went Northeast State Jr. College.  He moved to Macon from Rome Georgia in April 1974 while he worked for Kmart and became an Officer with the Macon Police Department in December 1974.  He graduated from Macon Jr. College and went on to Graduate from Tift College in 1980 with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. 

While working for the Macon Police Department he worked in a wide variety of assignments, both as a patrol officer and as a supervisor.  At various times he handled investigative assignments as a drug investigator, property and violent crimes investigations, Fiscal management director, Training Director as well as being the assistant precinct commander for three of the Macon Police Department Precincts.  After being promoted to Captain in 2007 he was assigned to the largest and most diverse precinct in the City of Macon.

He retired from the Macon Police Department on February 28, 2010 holding the rank of Captain and with over 35 years service with the Macon Police Department.  He accepted the Position as the Director of Safety and Security with CGTC and started on August 1, 2010.

 

Lieutenant Stephen Hutto, Assistant Director of Public Safety

Lieutenant Stephen HuttoLt. Hutto is a graduate of Putnam County High School in Eatonton, Georgia. He started his career in Putnam County as a volunteer fighter at 17 years old. Lt. Hutto attended basic EMT (emergency medical technician) school at night while a senior in high school. Shortly after graduating high school he was certified as an EMT and began working for Putnam County Emergency Medical Services. At 19 years old, Lt. Hutto began working full time for the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department. In 1999, Lt. Hutto was transferred to investigations where he was responsible for investigating all fires of unknown origin and all fire related deaths for Macon and Bibb County. In 2002, Lt. Hutto started working for a private investigation company, where he investigated fires for insurance companies and attorneys for product liability and subrogation losses. Lt. Hutto went back to full time law enforcement in 2005 as a narcotics investigator and in 2006 started to work for Macon Police where he was soon transferred to the Detective Bureau as a Person's Detective. Lt. Hutto come to work for Central Georgia Technical College as Assistant Director of Public Safety in June of 2011.

Lt. Hutto currently holds advanced certifications in Law Enforcement, as well as being a certified Arson Investigator, Certified Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Firefighter, Certified Hazardous Materials Technician, and certified in advanced open water diving and underwater rescue.
