Providing professional development training and resources for faculty to support the teaching/learning process
Our state faces major challenges to students successfully completing postsecondary education programs: many young adults who seemed to have successfully graduated from high school are under-prepared for collegiate instruction; and postsecondary students often need significant amounts of ongoing academic, economic, and other support to be able to complete programs of study.
CGTC is also committed to promoting success for technical program students though the enhancement and increased integration of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs services at all College locations. The College currently provides services to support learning and retention, which include advising, career counseling, tutoring, and remedial studies for students, as well as training for faculty in best teaching practices.
A. Improved Learning Outcomes for All Students
Centralized assessment, counseling (including special needs counseling) and advisement will be provided at the Macon and Milledgeville campuses along with improved and expanded orientation activities. Both the Macon and Milledgeville campuses will also provide expanded tutoring services through the Academic Success Center and will serve the surrounding satellite centers. Web-based services will be improved to offer tutorial support for students at all locations and to provide professional development training and resources for faculty to support best practices in the teaching/learning experience.
B. Enhanced Student Scholarships and Support Services
The College will work with the Foundation to augment the financial aid that is available to students by providing a Critical-Needs Scholarship fund to help good students, who have a critical or emergency need for financial assistance, to be able to stay in schools and complete their programs of study. An example of a critical need might be the need for personal safety equipment that a student is required to obtain to succeed in a particular program. Another critical need might arise from a temporary family emergency.
The College will also expand its website to provide a Support Services Locator, which will help students more easily access on-campus services and refer students to community-based support services.
C. Improved and Expanded Professional Development Opportunities
The College will develop additional web-based professional development opportunities for use by both full-time and part-time faculty at all locations to study and enhance the teaching and learning process.
The College will also expand professional development opportunities to satellite areas by creating a professional development resource center (PDRC) branch on the Milledgeville campus.
