CGTC Lady Cougars Open New Gymnasium with a Win Over Southern Union 77-58

November 17, 2011

Macon, GA. – The Central GA Tech Lady Cougars faced a tough Southern Union Lady Bison team that saw its second half rally fall short and, along with it, any hopes for a come-back win versus CGTC, 77-58, at the New Cougar Gymnasium on Rocky Creek Rd.

The Lady Cougars (2-2) found themselves up by as much as 28 points with 18:45 left in the second half, before the Lady Bison mounted a furious charge early in the period. With 3:09 left in the game, The Lady Cougars only led by a 10 point advantage, 61-53.

But a 16-5 surge by the Lady Cougars powered by Freshman Shanice Stanley (Tattnall Square) 8 pts/12 reb/3 stl/2 blks, Freshman Jasmine Grier (Commerce High) 14 pts/8 reb/5 stls/3 blks, and Freshman Brea Walker (Columbus, GA) 10 pts/5 reb/ 8 stl/ 1 blk, Grier connected on four consecutive two pointers during the span.

A pair of back to back steals and a three pointer by Walker helped change the momentum of the game with 2:31 left in the game.

The Lady Cougars took full advantage of 21 turnovers by the Lady Bison in the final half of the game. "I thought we came out aggressive early," said CGTC head coach Fala Bullock. "They just wouldn't stop coming at us, but Jasmine and Brea helped calm the team down and we made the necessary adjustments and pulled out a big victory at home. We got some steals; got some deflections, and started playing a little more. We are a work in progress and we are going to continue to improve."
