Scholarships and Grants
Basic Eligibility Requirements for State Aid Programs
- Must have been a U.S. citizen or Eligible Non-Citizen for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the first day of class of the term in which the student is seeking assistance from any state program
- Must have been a resident of the State of Georgia at the time of high school graduation, home school program or successful GED completion for a minimum of 12 consecutive months prior to the first day of classes for the term in which assistance from a state program is sought; OR if student was not a resident of the State of Georgia at the time of high school graduation, home school program or successful GED completion, student must meet the minimum residency requirement of 24 consecutive months prior to the first day of classes for the term in which assistance from a state program is sought.
- Must be registered with Selective Service
- Cannot be in default/repayment on a student loan
- Cannot owe a refund on any federal/state grant
- Cannot receive assistance from state programs if convicted of a drug related felony from the date of conviction to the completion of the following school term
- Cannot receive assistance from state programs while incarcerated
HOPE Scholarship
HOPE Scholarship Eligibility Requirements (in addition to Basic Requirements)
- Eligible Programs of Study: Associate Degree.
- Cannot have earned a prior bachelor's degree.
- Must have graduated from an eligible high school or equivalent with a 3.0 GPA or earned a 3.0 GPA at the 30, 60 or 90 semester hour check point in degree level coursework.
- If student did not graduate from an eligible high school or equivalent, student must have scored in the 85th percentile or higher on the SAT or ACT or have earned a 3.0 GPA at the 30, 60 or 90 semester hour check point in degree level course work.
Effective Fall Semester 2011
- 7-Year Rule – For students who have not received the HOPE Scholarship before Summer 2011, eligibility for the HOPE Scholarship will end on June 30th of the 7th year after the student's high school graduation date. Students who have received the HOPE Scholarship before Summer 2011 will continue to receive the HOPE Scholarship (if other eligibility requirements are met) until June 30, 2015 regardless of the date of the student's high school graduation.
- Students will have only one chance to regain the scholarship at the next checkpoint if lost due to GPA falling below 3.0.
- Maximum number of attempted semester hours is 127.
Cumulative Attempted Hours and CGTC Evaluation Procedures
- All attempted courses taken towards any degree are counted in the cumulative number of semester hours and GPA. Cumulative GPA must be 3.0 or higher.
- If attended any other college, academic transcript(s) must be provided to the Registrar's Office for cumulative GPA evaluation.
- If attended any other college, must complete the Request for HOPE Scholarship Evaluation Form.
- If you have attended any other college, the cumulative number of credit hours towards a degree and G.P.A. are considered when determining eligibility.
HOPE Scholarship Award Amounts
Tuition Award: For the 2011-2012 award year, the HOPE Scholarship will pay $60.75 per credit hour toward tuition. The Tuition and Fee Chart shows the amount of tuition only that HOPE will pay per the number of credit hours the student is enrolled and the amount not covered by HOPE that the student will be responsible for.
